It never stops amazing me what a great dog we have. Lily, for all her silliness and puppy-like behavior (she's 15 months) is an amazingly well-behaved beast. She continually proves to us that she's a fabulous critter. For example, everyday she is crated, and as much as we hate to do that to her it is what she knows and doesn't fight it one bit. Every morning before we leave for work, she happily trots her way into her crate, turns around for one last head pat, and then settles in for the day. She never fights us (though on occasion she might get distracted by a cat and veer this-way-and-that to get one last chase in) and when we come home to let her out she's bounces out as if to show us how much she loves us.
This afternoon as we were raking leaves, we let her out into the yard with us so she wouldn't have to watch from the door. After about 10 minutes, a few neighbor dogs started running loose in the street and were of course interested in Lily. Jesse told her "Get on your porch!" which she did, and then sat there right by the door looking at us for the "all clear." She didn't move an inch until Jesse called her back over to us! Such a sweetie pie.
She's gotten more protective of me since I got pregnant. She follows me all over the house (even to the bathroom...a bit disconcerting to be sitting on the pot with a dog sitting next to you but I don't complain...) and always makes sure she can see me. In the yard today, I rounded the corner and she got nervous because she couldn't see me, but she could see Jesse. He said she took off like a bat-out-of-hell after me to make sure I was okay. Its kinda cute. We think she'll be great with our new baby. She's been outstanding with little kids (3 and younger) so far.
We love our sweet dog. She's recently learned how to "shake" and is ambidextrous--she'll shake with either paw now. Her antics and silly growling noises when she's playing with her toys is hilarious, and sometimes she makes a mad dash around the furniture as if she was a race car driver (it is not uncommon for her to make laps around the dining room table.) She sounds like a walrus when she plays--it is quite a noise! She was a champ on the 10 hour car ride from Texas to New Mexico for Christmas, and even enjoyed a romp in the snow! She loves to give us morning kisses, take lake trips, go for car rides and wants to be with her people wherever we are. We sure do love you, Lily Pooch Ma-gooch!

Lily Prepares Us For Parenthood...

This morning our sweet Lily pooch had a good time. While taking our morning shower, she managed to get in some good "doggie-antics" within a matter of 10 minutes. Jesse opened the bathroom door and said "Oh my!" Apparently while the door was closed, Lily Dog decided to help herself to my sock drawer! In a short amount of time, she'd managed to pull out about 15 pairs of socks from my sock drawn and "decorated" the bedroom and livingroom with them. I even caught her in the act with one of the pairs, which she promptly took to the couch and started chewing on! I couldn't even get mad at her because I was laughing so hard, but I think it is safe to say that Lily has taught us a thing or two about what happens when drawers get accidentally left open!

Its been 3 months since we got our Lily Dog and boy she has gotten big! She's 7 months old now, and weighs 45 pounds and is still growing! We are taking a puppy training class to learn how to ask her to comply with certain commands, and so far she's doing great! I just thought it would be fun to show off how big she's gotten--we are so ridiculously crazy about her!

On Sunday afternoon (which was gorgeous, by the way--87 degrees outside!) we took Lily dog to the lake for the first time. She was so funny--she kept trying to bite the waves as they came in and got really frisky and started running all over the place! At one point, she started to walk into the lake, and didn't realize that there was a drop-off there so she dunked herself! Luckily, instinct took over and she puppy-paddled her way back! Looks like we have ourselves a Lake Dog! (Dad, you'll be so proud.)

Well, we expanded our family (and our hearts) yet again this week when we rescued a sweet German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever dog from Plano Animal Shelter. We named her Lily, and she is just the sweetest dog ever! Our 4 cats (Jack, Jill, Calamity and Andy) still aren't too sure what to think about her (she wants to play with them) but hopefully they can live in peace and harmony (at least she doesn't want to eat them.)
