Second Pregnancy :: Week 38

Second Pregnancy :: Week 38
How far along?
38 weeks
How big is baby?
A Pumpkin
Yow! If you feel a sort of lightening bolt running up and down your legs (and in your crotch), don’t freak out. At 38 weeks, baby’s probably sitting pretty low in your pelvis, which means he’s bumping into all kinds of nerves down there -- including some pretty sensitive ones you might not know you had. Be on the lookout for signs of labor, including contractions that come on stronger, at more regular intervals, and the “bloody show.” It could happen any day now -- or it might not be for a few weeks. Until then, try to relax.
Baby is about 18.9 to 20.9 inches long and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. Her head is now about the same circumference as her abdomen. She may have about an inch or so of hair already. She's slowly shedding that white goo on her skin (called vernix caseosa) but you might see some of it at birth.

Weight this week:
197.2 No change from last week.
Total weight gain:
28.8 lbs.
Maternity clothes:
I packed up any  maternity shirts that were size medium because they just aren’t doing their job of covering my belly...
Stretch marks:
Haven’t noticed anything new. I don’t think I’m as big with her as I was with Lucas and I’m stretched in different places than I was before because I’m carrying differently.
Belly button
Outie. Full on.
Sleep:
I’m thinking a catheter would provide me more sleep than what I’m getting now....I’m gonna move into the bathroom.
Best moment of the week:
My baby shower was last weekend and it was perfect! My best friend Christina went above and beyond to make it a beautiful day for me and Baby Fletchypants. She really could be a party planner if she ever gave up the coaching gig. I am so blessed with beautiful friends--amazing women who are more like family to me and who enhance the quality of my life. I never knew how important it was to have girlfriends until I met these women.
We got to see Baby Fletchypants on a sonogram this week and learned that she’s weighing approximately 7.5 pounds already! The tech said it looks like she has chubby cheeks and lots of hair and that she has a really pretty profile. She’s sitting pretty far down in my pelvis already so we didn’t get any great pictures of her, but we were able to confirm that she does have a foot jammed up under my ribs! Dr. Roberts asked me if I wanted to be induced a little early (he knows I have big babies) so on August 11th, if I don’t go into labor on my own before then, we will get to meet our sweet girl!
Food cravings:
Popsicles. I sat on the couch and ate 3 in one sitting without shame day before yesterday.
Food aversions:
Fast food is really starting to gross me out. I’d rather eat at home even if I’m starving and it would be easier to grab something on the way.
Symptoms:
I’m still feeling anxious but I’m trying to find ways to deal with it. I’ve been baking and painting and doing a few odd things around here to take my mind off of the things that I’m worried about.
Movement:
I know she’s running out of room in there but it doesn’t seem to be slowing her down much! I still am seeing so many bumps and wiggles and little shifts of movement.
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
Meeting my girl. I’m ready. Bring it on.
What I’m nervous about:
Nothing out of the norm--the “will I go into labor before my induction date” thing is pretty much it right now.
What I miss:
I feel kind of like a ticking timebomb and I feel like Jesse keeps looking at me like I’m going to go off at any minute. He has some trainings next week and it will just be Lucas and I here at home which makes me a little nervous but I know it will be fine. I miss not feeling anxious.
Next appointment:
August 6th is my last checkup before the induction!
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:

The anxious feeling in my tummy all the time seems familiar. Waiting, waiting, waiting...
