Second Pregnancy :: Week 39

Second Pregnancy :: Week 39
How far along?
39 weeks
How big is baby?
A Watermelon
Are we there yet? You’re probably feeling like you want to get this baby the heck out of you. We’re not sure, but the impatience and discomfort many moms feel around 39 weeks (and beyond!) might be nature’s way of getting you mentally prepared for delivery. Remember how freaked out you used to be about it? Now, at week 39 you probably don’t care what you have to do, you just don’t want to be pregnant anymore!
Baby keeps growing, despite being so crowded in there. He probably weighs around 6.2 to 9.2 pounds and measures about 18.9 to 20.9 inches. He's probably able to flex his limbs now. His brain is still rapidly developing -- he's getting smarter by the week! His nails may extend past his fingertips.

Weight this week:
198.8
Total weight gain:
30.4 lbs.
Maternity clothes:
I’m gonna miss some of my maternity clothes--specifically the tshirts. I have some comfy ones.
Stretch marks:
Thankfully I don’t think I have any new ones from this pregnancy. I’ve checked but I only see the silvery shiny ones from my pregnancy with Lucas.
Belly button
Outie. Full on.
Sleep:
Heh. Not really. Between the “up all the time to pee” and the “anxiety and nervousness” I am not sleeping well at all.
Best moment of the week:
Dr. Roberts giving us the induction date and knowing I will get to meet her soon! Also, having my parents arrive to be here for her birth and to take care of my sweet boy was a great way to end the week.
Food cravings:
Popsicles, slushies, anything cold and icy.
Food aversions:
I’m still kind of grossed out by most fast food right now. I’m happier with a bowl of cereal or some toast at home.
Symptoms:
The heartburn has been wildly uncomfortable this week...
Movement:
We went to the movies on Tuesday and about 3 am I woke up with some mild contractions. They were not consistent or evenly spaced out, and they only lasted for about an hour so I didn’t even bother waking up Jesse to worry him.
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
I want to hold her in my arms! I want to kiss her face and sing to her and stroke her hair. I can’t wait to meet this tiny human who has been living in me for 9 months!
What I’m nervous about:
I’m only nervous that I’ll go into labor before my parents get here. But we have a backup plan just in case, so I’m not really sure what I’m worried about. :)
What I miss:
At this point I just miss sleeping through the night without having to pee 15 times. I know the rest of this will all be resolved once she’s born!
Next appointment:
Induction Date: August 11, 2014 at 5am
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:
We went on a movie date when we were having Lucas and we were able to go to two movies this past week--it was nice to go on a few dates before becoming the parents of two children. I love spending time with my hubby.

Second Pregnancy :: Week 38

Second Pregnancy :: Week 38
How far along?
38 weeks
How big is baby?
A Pumpkin
Yow! If you feel a sort of lightening bolt running up and down your legs (and in your crotch), don’t freak out. At 38 weeks, baby’s probably sitting pretty low in your pelvis, which means he’s bumping into all kinds of nerves down there -- including some pretty sensitive ones you might not know you had. Be on the lookout for signs of labor, including contractions that come on stronger, at more regular intervals, and the “bloody show.” It could happen any day now -- or it might not be for a few weeks. Until then, try to relax.
Baby is about 18.9 to 20.9 inches long and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. Her head is now about the same circumference as her abdomen. She may have about an inch or so of hair already. She's slowly shedding that white goo on her skin (called vernix caseosa) but you might see some of it at birth.

Weight this week:
197.2 No change from last week.
Total weight gain:
28.8 lbs.
Maternity clothes:
I packed up any  maternity shirts that were size medium because they just aren’t doing their job of covering my belly...
Stretch marks:
Haven’t noticed anything new. I don’t think I’m as big with her as I was with Lucas and I’m stretched in different places than I was before because I’m carrying differently.
Belly button
Outie. Full on.
Sleep:
I’m thinking a catheter would provide me more sleep than what I’m getting now....I’m gonna move into the bathroom.
Best moment of the week:
My baby shower was last weekend and it was perfect! My best friend Christina went above and beyond to make it a beautiful day for me and Baby Fletchypants. She really could be a party planner if she ever gave up the coaching gig. I am so blessed with beautiful friends--amazing women who are more like family to me and who enhance the quality of my life. I never knew how important it was to have girlfriends until I met these women.
We got to see Baby Fletchypants on a sonogram this week and learned that she’s weighing approximately 7.5 pounds already! The tech said it looks like she has chubby cheeks and lots of hair and that she has a really pretty profile. She’s sitting pretty far down in my pelvis already so we didn’t get any great pictures of her, but we were able to confirm that she does have a foot jammed up under my ribs! Dr. Roberts asked me if I wanted to be induced a little early (he knows I have big babies) so on August 11th, if I don’t go into labor on my own before then, we will get to meet our sweet girl!
Food cravings:
Popsicles. I sat on the couch and ate 3 in one sitting without shame day before yesterday.
Food aversions:
Fast food is really starting to gross me out. I’d rather eat at home even if I’m starving and it would be easier to grab something on the way.
Symptoms:
I’m still feeling anxious but I’m trying to find ways to deal with it. I’ve been baking and painting and doing a few odd things around here to take my mind off of the things that I’m worried about.
Movement:
I know she’s running out of room in there but it doesn’t seem to be slowing her down much! I still am seeing so many bumps and wiggles and little shifts of movement.
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
Meeting my girl. I’m ready. Bring it on.
What I’m nervous about:
Nothing out of the norm--the “will I go into labor before my induction date” thing is pretty much it right now.
What I miss:
I feel kind of like a ticking timebomb and I feel like Jesse keeps looking at me like I’m going to go off at any minute. He has some trainings next week and it will just be Lucas and I here at home which makes me a little nervous but I know it will be fine. I miss not feeling anxious.
Next appointment:
August 6th is my last checkup before the induction!
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:

The anxious feeling in my tummy all the time seems familiar. Waiting, waiting, waiting...

How big is baby?
A Winter Melon
Get excited. At 37 weeks, your baby has reached full term. That means he’s developed his most crucial functions. Of course, he’ll get even healthier and stronger over the next few weeks, so don’t get too impatient. Around week 37, many moms-to-be find themselves organizing cupboards and scrubbing their floors. That’s the nesting instinct kicking in as your body senses baby will be here shortly. It also might be your brain’s way of making sure you’re prepared for just about anything, so you can feel like you have an extra edge on this whole new parent thing.
Yay! Baby has reached full term. He likely measures around 18.9 to 20.9 inches and weighs about 6.2 to 9.2 pounds. He's gaining about 1/2 ounce each day. He's practicing some skills: inhaling, exhaling, sucking, gripping and blinking. He's getting his first sticky poop (called meconium) ready for his first diaper.

Second Pregnancy :: Week 36

Second Pregnancy :: Week 36
How far along?
36 weeks
How big is baby?
A Honeydew Melon
Your due date is just four weeks away. Hasn’t time flown? Your once-poppy seed would probably be able to breathe on his own if he was born right now. (If not, he’d probably need some TLC, but he’d likely be okay.) Most of his systems are in working order at 36 weeks. Since baby really could decide to make his arrival any day now, try to put in a little prep work. For example, if you took a child birth class a few months ago, you might want to reread any materials you were given and practice some of the breathing techniques you learned with your partner. Go over your plan for getting to the hospital, and all the what-ifs (like, if you go into labor while you’re at work, will you go home first or straight there?). You might also want to remind your boss and colleagues of the status of all your work projects, so they know exactly where to take over if you’re suddenly out of the office. Week 36 is also a good time to enjoy a date with your partner. We’re guessing you won’t be up for dancing, but a nice dinner might be just what you two could use.
She's still in the 17.2- to 18.7-inch and 4.2- to 5.8-pound range and continues to beef up.She's getting closer and closer to being able to breathe on her own. Her skin is getting smooth and soft and her gums are rigid. Her liver and kidneys are in working order. Circulation and immune systems are basically good to go, too.

Weight this week:
197.2 (I went down--I’m guessing I had a lot of swelling last week when I weighed myself so maybe it wasn’t as accurate.)
Total weight gain:
28.8 lbs.
Maternity clothes:
I just want to lounge around in my maternity swimsuit. Its too hot to wear clothes.
Stretch marks:
I don’t think I have any new ones, but the old ones look all shiny again (they used to be kind of faded and blended into my waistline, which doesn’t really exist anymore.)
Belly button
Outie. Full on.
Sleep:
I consider myself lucky if my bladder lets me sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. Yay!
Best moment of the week:
I’ve been videoing the movement going on in my belly and sending short little clips to my Mom. This is one busy little girl, and one of the videos I sent to my Mom made it look like I had an alien trying to break out of my innards. She texted me to ask if I had sped up the video before I sent it to her which made me laugh--nope! That’s all real-time video of this little active baby girl!
On an note unrelated to pregnancy, I took Lucas to buy his supplies for kindergarten (which is unbelievable to me because I’ve been feeling like I’m re-living bringing him home from the hospital.) He’s such a big boy. He picked out his own new backpack, and made choices about other things about the color of the scissors and pencil bag and thermos he wanted. It was fun to make him a part of the process though because it gives him a chance to voice his opinion and makes him take ownership of the process of starting school.
I also got the opportunity to catch up with my friend Stephanie this week. She graciously housed us for a few hours while the inspector was here evaluating our home. It had been a long time since we got to just sit and visit and it was really nice to catch up with her!

Food cravings:
Anything cold. I’ve been wanting cereal for dinner a lot because then I don’t have to heat up the kitchen. I’m taking advantage of the fact that I can actually tolerate milk this time because with Lucas it made me barf.
Food aversions:
I can’t think of ANYTHING that made me feel queasy this week! Yay! Only took 36 weeks for that to happen but I’ll take it!
Symptoms:
I’m anxious. With all the selling/packing/moving/inspecting crap going on I’m nervous about when I’ll go into labor. I feel weary a lot of the time and my hips are hurting fairly regularly.
Movement:
When she moves, I try to discern what body part I’m seeing poke out from my protruding belly. I feel for toes, the firmness of an elbow or knee, and the bumps of a little fist. Most of the time when she moves I just put my hands on her to let her know that I’m excited to meet her too. :)
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
I’m looking forward to having that SOLD sign on our house! And I am REALLY excited about the baby sprinkle--I’ve been looking forward to seeing my friends and co-workers (and several of their new babies.)
What I’m nervous about:
We’ve passed the point where I’d have to worry about whether or not she’d be here before we move. We will close after she is born, so I kind of feel better knowing that we will be bringing her home to the same house that we brought her brother home to (at least for a very short time.)
What I miss:
I miss being able to pick up Lucas and hold him properly. My big belly and my limited lifting capabilities keep that from happening. I also miss being able to properly hug my husband!
Next appointment:
July 29th. (Sono and checkup.)
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:

The feeling of a baby pressing down on my bladder as I get closer and closer to my due date is vaguely familiar. I pretty much always feel like I have to pee and wonder if it would be more prudent to just move into the bathroom overnight.

Second Pregnancy :: Week 35

Second Pregnancy :: Week 35

How big is baby?
A Honeydew Melon
Growing, growing, growing. Yup, baby and you. You’ve reached 35 weeks, and your uterus has grown about 1,000 times its original size, a number that might sound exaggerated to everyone else -- but to you it probably feels more like a million. You can expect to gain about a half-pound a week before birth, and baby’s beefing up, too. At 35 weeks, some moms-to-be feel like they have a ton of stuff left to do before baby’s arrival. Others can barely wait for baby to make his debut. Either way, try not to stress. Baby will show up when he’s ready, and he won’t care if you haven’t checked every little detail off your list.
He's about 17.2 to 18.7 inches. From here on out, he won't get much longer, but he's plumping up. He's now about 4.2 to 5.8 pounds, and he'll put on a pound or more of baby fat before birth. Now, his hearing is fully developed, and he responds best to high-pitched noises. If it's a boy, his testes have probably fully descended.
Weight this week:
200.0 (ouch. I know its mostly baby and boobs, but yikes that stings to read!)
Total weight gain:
31.6 lbs.
Maternity clothes:
Earlier this week I wore a maternity shirt because it matched the shorts I had on. All day long I was constantly fighting with it--pulling it down to keep it from creeping back up. At the end of the day (after wearing it since that morning) I told Jesse I thought I was going to have to retire it. He giggled and said “Well, I didn’t want to say anything, but I’m pretty sure its too small.)
Stretch marks:
Nothing new. The ones from my first pregnancy were still pretty invisible but in pictures now I’m noticing you can see them again.
Belly button
Outie. Full on.
Sleep:
Sleep...ah, now that is something that I wish I was doing better, but at this late in the game, I’m not surprised its not too great. I can’t lay on my back because the baby weight crushes me and I can’t breathe (and I’m technically not supposed to anyway.) When I sleep on my side, I have to rotate at least once an hour to keep my hips from aching and/or going numb.
Best moment of the week:
I had a doctor’s appointment this week and found out that I’m starting to dilate a little bit (at the bottom of the cervix, but not at the top.) Apparently this is normal if you’ve already had a baby before. My doctor is out of town next week so I won’t see him until the following week at which point we will do an ultrasound and see how big she’s measuring. I can’t wait to see my little shutterbug again!
We had a bit of a disaster earlier this week. A large supercell storm passed through our neighborhood and took out part of our fence and sheared a couple of decent sized branches off of the large trees in our front yard. We were lucky that we didn’t sustain more damage--some of our neighbors had roof damage and worse problems that ours. We are extremely thankful to the handful of friends who came to our rescue and helped us get our house and yard looking spiffy again. Less than 24 hours after the storm we were able to continue showing our house (it had only been on the market for 4 days when this disaster struck!) We felt so blessed to have such amazing friends with giant hearts! (Not to mention chainsaw’s, tools, and the muscle to complete the tasks!)

Food cravings:
I’m not really having any major cravings, though I did indulge in some Chipotle chicken tacos last week while I was on lunch (I had a training) in Lewisville. They tasted amazing!
Food aversions:
Nothing major, but I still have to take it slow when I’m eating because you just never know what will decide to come back up.
Symptoms:
I’m REALLY tired. I feel like my legs are tired of holding my big bellied body up. I have so much packing to do but I’m trying to just do a little at a time for now.
Movement:
She keeps kicking me in the ribs, the little turkey! More than once I’ve been woken up to the unpleasant sensation of having the wind almost knocked out of me by this babe. I understand that she’s getting short on space in there, but geez she’s still got some power in those legs!
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
I’m looking forward to the baby “sprinkle” next weekend. Also, I just want my house to sell so we can move to the next phase of our lives!
What I’m nervous about:
I’m nervous about when she’ll arrive. I don’t relish the idea of trying to sell the house while we have a newborn in the house. On the other hand, trying to pack while uber-preggo isn’t that much fun either!
What I miss:
I miss sleeping on my back. I miss my hips not hurting. I miss being able to sleep for more than an hour and a half at a time without having to get up and pee.
Next appointment:
July 29th. (Sono and checkup.)
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:
I’m just tired--probably more so because we have so much going on. With the house on the market and having to pick up and leave at a moment’s notice (okay, like an hour) and keeping the house clean I’m feeling wiped out. Plus, all the movement she is making is wearing me out. She’s burning through what little energy I have. I can’t decide if I’m ready for her to get here or if I just want her to hang on a few weeks longer so we can get (hopefully) packed and moved.
