6 Is A Magical Number...

To the sweetest little boy I know...

Today you are 6 years old. Happy Birthday! You may not remember, so I've included a picture of you to remind you that once upon a time you were a teeny (ish) little ball of cheeks that begged to be kissed and stick-straight dark hair that had a mind of its own. The number 6 has significance that began well before your birthday, as you were 6 days later than we had planned originally. But you were the best pre-Mother's Day present ever!

Six years ago you came out LOUD. And ticked off! We had evicted you from your warm and cozy casa, and you let us know you weren't happy about it. But then they gave you to me, and I put you on my chest just below my chin, and you started to calm down and stopped crying.

You are almost 60 pounds of pure joy now, and though you are mighty and extremely tall you are the world's biggest cuddle bug. You have the sweetest spirit--finding joy in the little things (like bubbles popping in your face and the sound of the garbage truck picking up the cans.) You have a wonderful sense of humor and you love to try to block us when we are walking, or you run into us and say "I crashed!"

You are so thoughtful and you are very helpful around the house. When I get home from work you like to take my rolling cart in for me (saying "I'll get it!" when I take it out of the trunk.) After you eat you will kindly pick up your plate and cup and put them in the sink (and often times throw extra things that you "think" go in the sink, like pens and chip clips.)

You are still obsessed with trains, cars, construction equipment and farm equipment. You find videos on YouTube of people going down waterslides, playing with marble mazes and people opening Easter Eggs to find out what is inside. We are often shocked at the array of videos that you like to watch.

You can be a walking contradiction sometimes. You won't walk on the grass in bare feet but you'll kick dirt without shoes on. You don't like sticky stuff to be on your hands but you get annoyed when I ask you to go and wash them. You'll sing songs all the time but if someone starts singing you will put your hand over their mouth.

You started Kindergarten in the August just after your sister was born and you have had an amazing Kindergarten year. The amount of language you have developed and the social skills you've acquired absolutely boggle our minds. You are reading on-level with your peers and we are constantly amazed by how incredibly smart you are.

Since your last birthday some big things have happened in your life. You have lost 8 teeth and you now have two adult teeth. Four of them fell out because the new teeth were coming in, and four of them were pulled because of dental issues. You have the cutest toothless grin, and you've done really well when it comes to figuring out how to eat stuff without as many teeth.

You became a big brother in August and you have a baby sister named Gable. Your sister thinks you are fascinating and watches everything you do. She loves to grab your face and your hair when you are sitting near her, and she likes to play with your toys too. She thinks you are funny and often gets really excited when she hears you laughing. You are a sweet big brother and will give her kisses (sometimes even when we don't ask!)

In October we moved from our house in The Colony to our new house in Savannah. You have a new big boy room and a new bunk bed with a tent to sleep under. You love our house because it has stairs, and stairs are one of your favorite things. You also have a lot more room to run around and you really enjoy running in circles in the livingroom.

We took you out for birthday donuts this morning, and we have a weekend full of fun planned to celebrate your birthday! Papa is coming to visit and celebrate with us and we're going to go and ride the train and have a good time!

Daddy and sister and I love you so much.  You have taught me so much about what it means to be a Mom and even if you are half my height, you will always be my sweet baby boy. Happiest of birthdays to you my love bug, my sweet pickle, my punk and my tootie-pants. I love you!!
