Gable Willow--7 Months Old!

My beautiful girl,

If I thought you changed a lot last month then consider my mind blown this month! You are really coming into your own and you are such a real little person now! Instead of this floppy noodle of a baby you are always reaching, always stretching, always looking and always wanting whatever anyone else has. You want to hold things, embrace them and snuggle them. You want to taste things and hold things to your face and look at them and wet them with your goopy baby drool.

When I change your diaper, you beat on your tummy with your fist because you like the drum-like sound it makes. You also have taken to undoing your diaper by grabbing the tabs that hold it on right as I'm trying to get you dressed. Speaking of diapers, you have moved from size 2 to size 3 diapers this month. We haven't yet begun cloth-diapering you yet--other than not wanting to add one more thing to my list, I can't give you a good reason why. I imagine this summer you'll be wearing a lot of cloth diapers though, so get ready for your fluffy butt!

You watch everything with your curious hazel eyes. (Yes, they seem to finally have a color!)  You are not content to just sit in the chair anymore--you want to be in the middle of all the action, wherever that may be. Your social tendencies make you want someone to talk to you, to visit with you, or to play with you. You love to watch your brother and you love when he sits next to you on the floor. You sit in your Bumbo chair when I'm cooking and shake your toys or a set of measuring spoons around while I pitter around the kitchen making food, often squawking your newest noise at the top of your lungs while I cook.

The biggest and most exciting thing this month is that you are eating table food and loving it!! Now when I say eating, I mean more like "gumming" or "smooshing" or "gooping." I'm not entirely sure much of it is actually ending up in your belly, though some of it must be because your diapers have turned a bit stinkier than before. You are SERIOUS about potatoes! You LOVE sweet potatoes, french fries, and steak fries and "keep 'em coming or someone will get hurt!" You want whatever we are eating and take every opportunity to grab at my tea or my breakfast items whenever I am trying to nurse you while I'm eating. To date you have had garlic toast, avocado, homemade rice cereal, banana, raisin toast, asparagus, penne pasta, roasted sweet potatoes, steak fries, french fries, broccoli, French bread, mashed potatoes, hard-fried egg, bacon, vanilla ice cream, pancakes, pepperoni pizza, cheese quesadilla, chili, biscuits, scrambled eggs, toasted croissant, toasted English muffin with peanut butter, toast with peanut butter, cucumber, graham cracker, vanilla Greek yogurt, applesauce, roasted green beans, rice, cranberry bagel, flank steak, cheesestick, pigs-in-a-blanket and baked beans. I pray you continue to be my foodie girl! I need someone on my team!

You got to see snow this month. Twice we've had "snow days" (one was an ice day) but we had a great time watching brother and daddy run around and throw snow at each other!  You weren't sure what to think about the snow. It would fall on your lashes and cheeks and you would squint and squish up your face. You have learned to scrunch your nose up (just like I did as an infant) and it is one of my favorite things to see you do. You rub your eyes when you are sleepy, you rub your face with your sleeve and blanket when you are about to fall asleep, and you (for the most part) are a really good sleeper (barring teething and growth spurts.)

You are ALMOST sitting all on your own regularly  now. I like to put the Boppy pillow around you just in case you take a tumble, but you are able to sit unassisted for quite a while most of the time. You are getting annoyed with your carseat because you don't like laying down in the car anymore. You have far too much to see and you are constantly trying to sit up and look around, so we think it is time for us to look for a new carseat for you. You are NOT content with the world revolving around you. You desire to take the world on and see what all it has to offer!

It doesn't take much to get you to smile. You are so ticklish and bubbly and happy. I mean it whole-heartedly when I say you are the the best baby in the whole world. Your pleasant and happy disposition makes me love you even more. You love to see yourself in the mirror, or in the reflection of a glass window, or when I turn the camera around on my phone. It is easy to get a selfie with you because you smile as soon as you see yourself on the camera!

You have grown! A week after your 6 month checkup we got your new stats. You weighed 16lbs. 8 oz.'s, you are 24.5 inches long, and have a 44 in. head circumference! Across the board (except for your head--which is at 100th percentile) you are an average sized baby. 54th for weight, almost 70th for height. You are a peanut compared to your beefcake brother, but what you lack in size you make up for in smiles and cuddles and sweetness!!

Your hair is getting longer and so are your eyelashes. You are a pretty baby with a beautiful toothy smile and getting toothier by the minute! You cut your top two front teeth just before you turned 7 months (both on the same day--3/3/15) so now you have four little chompers to chew with. You get excited whenever you see me walk into a room, and you cry when I leave you or when I walk away from you. (Which breaks my heart!) You are beginning to get some stranger-danger and you are also beginning to be startled by loud noises (your brother shouting, people sneezing and the dog barking are the ones that come to mind) but you also recognize good things, like when I turn on your bath water (you smile and start kicking your legs in excitement.)

I have nicknamed you my "little starfish" because when we come into your room to get you out of your crib, you flail your arms and legs out in a star-shape (much like when a person goes zip-lining and they "starfish" to slow themselves down.) You really are a sweet little blessing and a delightful baby girl.

We are absolutely besotted by you and enchanted by you. You have your Daddy and I completely wrapped around your finger and I wouldn't have it any other way.

We love you baby girl!

Gable Willow--Six Months Old!

Happy Half-Birthday, my little love! I'm finding this to be a hard post to write because it is almost impossible for me to believe that we've had you for an entire half a year. When I think about this time last year when I was pregnant with you and was SOOOO sick and barfy I never knew how crazy in love I'd be a year later.

You are the happiest, smiley-ist baby I've ever met.  Even when I can only see your eyes (while peeking out from under a blanket) I can tell that you are smiling because you smile with your whole entire face. You've begun to scrunch up your nose when you smile or laugh and you look a lot like I did when I was a baby when you do that.

You are growing and changing so much. You are still crazy roly-poly on your legs (they haven't begun to stretch out yet) but you are healthy and happy and beautiful. We finally took the headrest out of your carseat because you don't need it anymore. You fill up the carseat so much that the headrest was really just a cumbersome piece of fluff that got in your way.

We've discovered several tickle-spots that get you giggling and I LOVE the sound of your giggle. You are so comfortable on your belly and you like to spend time on your belly and you've even managed to scoot yourself off the blanket a few times.

The two little tiny teeth that made their appearance last month are now full-on chompers! You learned quickly that biting Mommy is a bad idea and thankfully I haven't had to remind you more than a time or two. It seems like you've been trying to cut those top teeth for weeks now and though they have made your gums swollen they still haven't tried to cut through. (They have, however, made you drool buckets every day!)

Your hair still has the strawberry-blonde hue and it has begun to get longer. The unfortunate side effect of this is that you have gotten some knots in the back because you like to swish your head from side-to-side which kind of makes a bird nest thing in the back. I've had to cut a few knots out when I couldn't get them to untangle.

We decided to try a few solid foods with you just before you turned 6 months because you have been really curious about food--you are often reaching for things I'm eating or drinking and I thought it might be time to give it a shot. The first thing you tasted was garlic toast and you liked it! You didn't really eat much of it (more licked and gummed it) but you kept going back for more! Since then you've had avocado, banana, brown rice cereal with applesauce and raisin toast and all of these things have been fairly well-received, though you didn't really eat much of any of them. You made the best faces when we gave you banana--you really weren't sure what to do with it.

Your coordination is getting better too. You are able to reach up and grab things that are in front of your face and pull them to you. You are doing pretty well at getting the food into your mouth too and at grabbing things that I put in front of your face. Its not exactly graceful, but if you pull your pacifier out of your mouth most of the time you can get it back in your mouth without help.

You are working on rolling over but haven't quite gotten there yet. When I lay you on the changing pad you tend to turn yourself halfway over to try to reach for the lotion bottle. In general you are moving and scooting around a lot even though you aren't going far. On January 31st you woke up perpendicular in your bed instead of laying lengthwise across it like you were when I put in it.

Your babbling is so musical and funny to listen to. You have a lot of different noises and sounds that you make and sometimes you will yammer on for over 20 minutes while sitting in your Bumbo or laying on the floor on your tummy.

Your daddy turned 38 this year and we had a birthday/housewarming party. A lot of people got to see you either for the first time or for the first time since you were born, and it was nice having a house full of people to spend time with. You enjoyed all the arms that were available to snuggle you.

As I write this I am sitting on the couch at home with you because you are sick. The day before you turned 6 months old you were diagnosed with RSV so you and Mommy have been spending the week at home together. Even sick, you are still the happiest baby ever. I can tell that you don't feel well because your "sparkle" isn't there but your big hazel eyes still look at me and you grin with your entire face. You haven't slept well because you have so much goop and drainage running down your throat that is making you cough. You fall asleep on my shoulder at least once a day and I won't lie--it is my favorite thing in the world right now.

Here are some things that you've been up to since last month:

You helped Mommy in the kitchen.

You had a "toe blowout" in your jammies.

You figured out that getting your toes into your mouth wasn't too hard to do.

You decided that you look GOOD in hats.

You tasted garlic toast and liked it!

You were my little ladybug.

You practiced your best "flying cheerleader" moves.
You made me smile EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

You looked fashionable in your overalls.

You shared a conversation with Daddy at breakfast.

You glowed and sparkled and brightened up the world with your smile.

You gave some avocado a go.

And you were Miss Independent while trying to feed yourself some brown rice cereal.

You laughed with Daddy.

You were unsure about bananas.
