Gable Willow--Two Months Old!

Dear Gable Willow,

Congratulations! Happy 2 month birthday!! You just get more and more amazing each month and we are so in love with you!

Today is special because it is not only your two-month birthday, but also the last night we will spend in the house we live in now. We are packing up and moving over the next few days so I thought it was worth noting. It has been nice to be able to bring you home to the same house that we brought your brother and Lily Dog home to.

This last month has been a little hectic. We sold our house and have been trying to pack a little at a time so there have been boxes all over the place. Your daddy went back to work and your brother started kindergarten a while back so its just been you and I hanging out at the house by ourselves. My maternity leave sadly ended this past week and you started spending your days with Ms. Rose Ann but it has been a great transition and I feel so blessed that we got to have so much time together.

You might want to know something about your Mom--she is a social creature who gets stir-crazy rather easily. In order to meet her daily quota of "words that need to be spoken" requires at least one daily outing, therefore, you and Mommy had to get out a lot while she was on maternity leave. We went to Hobby Lobby a few times, went to Target a little bit, and visited some co-workers and friends too. It helped meet Mommy's need for social time and let you get out and be held and cuddled and ogled at.

Here are some things that we have learned about you:

  • You are a noisy eater! Sometimes when I'm on the phone and nursing you at the same time I get questions about the background noise. You also like to grasp onto me now when you are nursing--its like a little fist hug. :)
  • Your belly button has gone from being an outie to an innie. It is an adorable little belly button and I love to kiss it.
  • Twice you have giggled in your sleep, which is really amusing but I can't wait to hear you do it while you are awake!
  • The grunting that you practiced last month has been perfected. You grunt all the time. You grunt when you wiggle, and when you sleep. You grunt when you are in your swing and on your tummy. We love your grunts and we love to listen to the cuteness that is you.
  • We still don't know yet what your eye color will be but it looks like it will either be blue or hazel. Your eyes have remained greyish so far but they are quite pretty. You can also see your very fair but long eyelashes now.
  • Your daddy has this magical ability to make you fall asleep in the crook of his arm, and you are quite happy to let him.
  • The longest sleep stretch you have had so far was almost 9 hours. Your Momma woke up in a panic and was worried there was something wrong, but you were perfectly content and when I came in you just started grunting.
  • You are such a happy baby, but especially in the mornings. You are full of grins and wiggles and baby noises!
  • You have the cutest pouty lower-lip. I only know this because on occasion you start to cry and that little tiny lip sticks out. It makes me want to kiss it.
  • You have an angry cry, which also results in trembly jaw. You usually don't get your angry cry on unless you are super tired and just want to fall asleep, but angry cry almost always goes along in conjunction with trembly jaw. It is both sad and adorable at the same time.
  • We had you weighed during a visit to Dr. P and you are 12 pounds of love!
  • Your first memorable blowout diaper happened this month at Texas Health Plano Hospital where you were born. Mommy was there to see her doctor when you had a major blowout in your jammies. We didn't have any backup outfits because we only brought the little diaper bag, so we ended up having to buy you an outfit from the hospital gift shop (a cute little $22 number from Ralph Lauren.) Lesson learned!
  • You absolutely LOVE your bathtime. Even on nights when you are fussy you can be soothed by the healing powers of a bath.
  • Your head control is improving and you lift your head to look around when you aren't facing the direction you wish to look at.
  • The only time you will take a pacifier is if you are really tired and are using angry cry to let us know.
  • You have begun batting at items when we put them in front of your face. One night you nearly knocked the shampoo rinser cup out of my hand and got a face full of water for your efforts.
  • You can recognize your Mommy now and you give me a big, gummy smile when you see me. You know me by my smell too because if I come near you when you are sleeping on Daddy you begin to stir and root.
  • You started daycare with Ms. Rose Ann and have done amazingly well. You are cuddly and sweet and have had no problems drinking from your bottle (though you did have one night where you were uber-gassy all night.) That same gummy smile I mentioned above? That is one of the best parts of my day. You flash that cuteness when I pick you up at the end of the day and it makes me feel good about where you spend your days.
  • Your hair gets really crazy and kind of fluffy when it was clean. It is also kind of wavy when it is wet, and still seems to have a slight strawberry-blonde color to it.
Here are some things that you've been up to this past month:
