Second Pregnancy :: Week 28
How far along?
28 weeks
How big is baby?
An Eggplant
Putting on layers of fat, your baby now weighs in around 1.5 to 2.5 pounds and measures about 13.6 to 14.8 inches. She's starting to develop more fat, so her wrinkly skin will start to get smoother. Her lungs are mature enough that she'd probably survive if she was born now. Wow!
Welcome to the third trimester! Moms-to-be who are at 28 weeks and beyond are known for their lack of sleep. Remember if you find yourself up in the middle of the night, do something relaxing. This is not the time to vacuum the house from top to bottom -- even though you might feel the urge to do that at some point. Read a book, drink chamomile tea, listen to soothing music. Then try to get back to bed and get some rest! Being in the third trimester also means much of your and baby’s anatomy are ready to go -- she's prepping for breathing, and your breasts already have colostrum, which is what baby will eat the first few days until your milk comes in. You’ll also start feeling more Braxton Hicks contractions as your body gets ready for labor. Baby will keep getting bigger -- and smarter -- after week 28, and other than that, she just needs a few more finishing touches.
Weight this week:
195.0
Total weight gain:
26.6
Maternity clothes:
I needed a white shirt to wear because my other one (non-maternity) didn’t fit. I went to look at maternity tshirts, but I was NOT gonna pay $26 bucks for a tshirt! So I bought an extra-large and put elastic on the sides to make it fit better :)
Stretch marks:
Nothing new. (Or not that I can tell.)
Belly button:
It is starting to become more outie than half-outie.
Sleep:
I sleep pretty well (in between all the getting up to pee.) I tend to shift quite a bit (rolling from one side to the other) throughout the night and Jesse said I’ve been snoring on occasion.
Best moment of the week:
I did my first “kick count” (which typically means counting 10 kicks within 1 hour.) I counted 10 kicks in less than 3.5 minutes!
Food cravings:
Not as much this week. Still rockin’ the heartburn (yay!) so I haven’t really felt all that crazy about food.
Food aversions:
Well, pimento cheese made me hurl this week. Apparently Her Majesty doesn’t like it.
Symptoms:
A few leg cramps, but mostly my belly has just been feeling super tight. I have quite a few Braxton-Hicks a day.
Movement:
She’s had the hiccups lately--it makes her daddy giggle whenever she hiccups because it does feel kind of funny. Sometimes I feel like she’s punching me 3 places at once.
Gender:
Girl! (Note: this section not likely to change from here on out....unlike my weight, which will.) :)
What I’m looking forward to:
Going to the mountains to see my Mommy! 1 week, Mommy--I’m gonna be there soon!
What I’m nervous about:
Not much this week. Feeling pretty happy. :)
What I miss:
I miss not grunting and groaning when leaning over. I miss being able to get off the toilet without feeling like I’m exhausted afterwards.
Next appointment:
June 17th. I start going every 2 weeks now (though this time it will be 3 weeks since I’m going to be in NM.)
Comparison to Pregnancy #1:
I failed my glucose screening but not much. I’ve elected NOT to do the 3 hour test though because it made me so very sick the last time and I did NOT end up with gestational diabetes. I feel good with my decision. I do not have the risk factors other than my age and even that doesn’t mean much. With no family history (on either side) of diabetes, the fact that I wasn’t overweight when I got pregnant, and especially since I’ve had a healthy pregnancy and did NOT have GD during my first pregnancy makes me feel really good about choosing not to have the 3 hour test. Plus, does it bother anyone else that the glucose is both artificially colored AND flavored?
