Two Weeks Old...Still Tired From The Move...

Our Dear Sweet Gable,

It's been two weeks since you joined the Fletcher Clan, though we can hardly believe its gone that fast. Your birth has changed our family in so many good ways and we love you so much. Here are a few things that we've learned about you so far: (in no particular order...)

  • When you are hungry, you start letting me know by smacking your lips. Then you start trying to nom-nom-nom your hand or your arm. If you don't get food fast enough, you start snorting and rooting around like a pig and you make the funniest little grunting noises while searching for a boobie to latch onto.
  • You LOVE to nap. You are SOOOO my girl!
  • You prefer to poop in CLEAN diapers. I don't know how many times I've changed a wet diaper only to put a clean one on you, and five minutes later had to change you again because you waited to poop until a clean diaper graced your hiney.
  • Speaking of diaper changes, you flail around like an uncoordinated puppy when I'm trying to change you. You shift and wiggle and rotate--it is truly a small feat to try and get a clean one back on you!
  • You make the cutest little fish lips in your sleep. Or maybe they are bird lips. Either way, they make me want to give you kisses!
  • You don't seem to be bothered by your noisy big brother, which is a good thing, because he's almost always noisy.
  • You go from deathly quiet to full-scale pissed off in a matter of moments. It is quite a transformation and there is no in-between.
  • You can track your daddy's movements with your eyes and you love to watch his face.
  • You don't like riding in the car. We're not sure if its the carseat or the motion, but something makes you really annoyed.
  • You could take or leave a pacifier. You'll use it if its the only option available but rarely keep it in for long.
  • You are a good eater and you are also a comfort nurser. You like to be held a lot.
  • I don't care if people say it's gas--you look like you are smiling and you do it all the time.
  • You are incredibly strong! When you were born they put you on my chest and you took both arms and pushed yourself up so you could look around. When you decide to try and put your hand in your mouth, it is nearly impossible to try to get you not to. And getting you dressed is a challenge because you pull your arms in and don't want to let me put them into the sleeves!
  • You have my long toes and fingers and look a lot like me when I was a baby.
You are such a good baby. You are starting to make cooing noises, burbles and squeaks and everytime you do I gush with pride! I love your milk-drunk face after you've gotten a belly full of breastmilk, and I love how you smell when you are all warm and fresh from the bath. I hate putting you down and I love to cuddle you when we lay down to take a nap together. You are so much fun and you are changing so fast and that is both exciting and heart-breaking at the same time. The last two weeks have been an amazing discovery of you and we can't wait to learn more about you!

Here are a few things you've been up to since your birth:

You got some sun to fight off jaundice.

You met your Abuela RoseMary.

You went to see the pediatrician.

While at the pediatrician, you peed all over your Daddy. (And Mommy has never laughed harder!)

You met your Auntie Rhonda.

You opened your beautiful eyes and we marveled at you.

You napped. And yawned. And slept a lot.

 You met Moncrief Little...

And a Moncrief Mommy...

You wore the tutu, necklace and hairbow that Auntie Nina made for you...

You met Miss Emily.

You hung out with your Mommy and Big Brother.

You went shopping at Target.

You were worn in a sling.

You napped. Again. And strangely.

You had lunch with Daddy.

You lost your belly button stump and now we can see your cute belly button!

You rocked a fox print cloth diaper.

You had your first bath (and scowled just like your brother about it.)

But afterwards, you liked being cuddled in a towel on Mommy's lap...

You got kisses from your brother.

And you looked adorable in your jammies...
