One Month In the Books!

Dear Gable Willow,

As hard as it is to believe, you have been a part of our family for an entire month now! We have loved getting to know you and we are learning more about you every day.

You are becoming a lot more vocal every day and you make a lot of coo's, burbles, but mostly grunts. You grunt when you are wiggling, you grunt during diaper changes, you grunt when you are going to sleep and when you are trying to wake up. You grunt when you are in the swing and in the chair and in your carseat, and when anyone holds you (at least for a little while.)

Your expressions are becoming more obvious and you use a lot of eyebrow to convey how you are feeling. You also wiggle your lips around a lot and stick your tongue out both when you are happy and when you are not so happy.

You LOVE your hands (you have since day one) and you are constantly trying to get them in your mouth. This often makes feeding you an interesting challenge because its hard to get you to latch on when you are trying to put your hand in your mouth at the same time.

Trying so hard to get that hand in your mouth that it got stuck in the strap.

You absolutely HATE having a dirty diaper. The moment you mess your pants you start hollering for a clean one, which most of the time you use as an opportunity to soil again (as I've mentioned before, you prefer to poop into clean diapers.) You have a grumpy cry for when you need your diaper changed and it sounds different than your hungry cry (it is more fussy and less wail.)

Your cry is starting to change from a wailing newborn cry to a heartier, fussier, "I'm trying to get my point across to you" cry. You are also starting to develop tears which is truly heartbreaking and makes it even more upsetting when you are unhappy. You aren't really a big crier--you get kind of fussy in the evenings (usually right before you sack out) but unless you are unhappy in the car, you don't tend to cry with much vigor. So long as you have a full belly and a clean booty, you tend to be a pretty happy camper.

You are putting on weight like a champ and I am happy you are such a good eater! You are beginning to get little rolls on your arms and on your thighs and your face has become more round. Your nighttime eating has stretched out some but isn't really consistent. Sometimes you will go almost 5 hours without a feeding, and then you'll want to eat every 2-3 hours after that.

You get the hiccups a lot and they make you mad. You had the hiccups when you were inside me too--it used to make my belly jiggle and make me laugh, but there is something sad about you when you are hiccuping and crying at the same time. Your hiccups sound like little baby squeaks.

Your head control is getting stronger and you are able to lean against things at an angle (like the arm of the couch) without falling over too much. You are still so strong and feisty and even during tummy time you manage to lift up your head and legs and arms all at the same time and just kind of "float" on your belly.

Tummy Time!

Your eyes continue to stay gray so we aren't sure if you are going to have blue or hazel eyes. And your hair (so far) hasn't fallen out and has a golden-reddish tint to it. Your skin is peeling around your feet and on your face but you haven't had any newborn acne or any other issues. Your skin is so soft and pretty.

Here's a few things that you've been up to in the last 2 weeks:

You went to visit Daddy at school.

You took a nap on Daddy.

You hung out with your brother on the couch.

More napping...

And more napping on Daddy... (it's a tough job but he's up to the task.)

You have been looking around and watching the world a whole lot more (when you aren't napping that is...)

You rocked your own personal headband style...

You had lunch with Nina (or rather, she ate lunch while you napped.)

You got puppy kisses from Mason. He thought you were rather interesting.

You also got kisses from your brother (which I thought was awesome!)

You looked adorable in ruffles.

You guessed it...more napping on Daddy...

And you looked wide awake and gorgeous in your new jammies.

It has been such an amazing month and I am really loving every minute of being home with you!!
